Frequently Asked Questions
Applying for a Tinteán home
As an Approved Housing Body, Tinteán do not have a waiting list for applicants seeking housing. If you would like to become a Tinteán tenant, you should make sure you are approved for social housing with your local authority. The local authority will nominate applicants to Tinteán every time we have a home available.
All applicants must be over aged 18 years or over.
Rent
Your rent is calculated using the relevant differential rent scheme applied to your estate. If you require a copy or details of the local authority policy applicable to you please contact our Housing Coordinator..
This means that your rent is calculated by looking at the amount of income coming into your household and the makeup of your household which includes the number of people/children/dependents etc.
There are a variety of different ways in which you can pay your rent including:
- By standing order
- By direct bank lodgement
Tinteán calculates rent in line with our Differential Rent Policy, which takes into account your household income and composition. The rent you pay is based on your ability to pay, ensuring fairness and affordability.
We follow our own internal rent policy and liaise with your Local Authority where required.
For full details, please refer to our Rent Policy document.
Tinteán calculates CAS (Capital Assistance Scheme) Rent based on our CAS Rent Policy, which also considers household income and circumstances.
We do not use fixed rent amounts and do not reference Carlow County Council — the rent is assessed fairly in line with your Local Authority guidelines and our internal policies.
You can request a copy of our CAS Rent Policy for full details.
Tinteán issues rent statements every quarter. Statements can be requested at any time. If you have any issue with rent payments, please contact our Housing Administrator immediately.
Resident Queries
You can remain in your home for as long as you wish, provided you don’t breach any of the Letting Agreements agreed to when you initially received your new home.
This depends on your initial application and will be assessed on an individual basis by Tinteán. However, if you applied for your home as part of a couple, then your home will transfer to your partner. It should be noted that each case is assessed individually.
You will need to declare your partner as being a tenant. Please speak with our Office staff.
Maintenance Queries
Any or all changes to your home must be agreed in writing with Tinteán.
Please consult our Tenant Handbook. You can download the book in the Resident Support section.
